Pyrrole Disorder / Learning difficulties

Could Pyrrole be the cause of your child's learning difficulties?

Is your child struggling at school? Do they have difficulty concentrating?

We’re just over a month into the new school year and by now your kids should be settling into their new routine.

But for one in ten children, school can pose a few problems. They can’t sit still and concentrate, can’t deal with the stress of a classroom environment and can even become quite anxious.

These kids may have a little-known condition called Pyrrole Disorder, a genetic blood disorder that results in a dramatic deficiency of zinc, B6 and arachidonic acid (a long-chain omega-6 fat). The disorder inhibits your child’s stress coping system from developing fully, meaning they are more susceptible to suffering the physiological effects of stress.

Never heard of it? I’m not surprised. Many GPs don’t know about it, but it is a disorder that is being diagnosed more frequently in both children and adults.

Children with this condition can often be wrongly diagnosed and put into a classification where the only medical treatments are stimulant drugs like Ritalin.

5 things to look out for if you suspect your child may have Pyrrole Disorder

  1. Emotional mood swings and anxiety
  2. Difficulty coping with stress
  3. Sensitivity to light and sound
  4. Pale skin that doesn’t tan and burns easily, bumpy skin on upper arms
  5. White spots on nails

What next?

If you think your child might have Pyrrole, there’s a simple way to find out – a simple urine test which we will organise for you.

The good news with Pyrrole is that once diagnosed, it can be easily treated using specific natural medicines in combination with a low-inflammatory diet. This includes removing all additives and preservatives from their food, as well as cutting out dairy, gluten and processed sugar.
